If there’s one tournament you’re going to play this year, it is the 2022 US Class Championship!

 

You don’t want to miss out on the 2022 US Class Championship as it returns to the Bay Area after 3 years. This is a must play tournament because it’s a National Championship that levels the playing field for all players by grouping them in sections with 200-point rating bands, from Master (for players rated over 2200) to Beginner (for Scholastic players rated under 400 and unrated). You can choose from 11 sections: 

1. 4 Scholastic sections (800-999, 600-799, 400-599, and under 400)
2. 7 Open sections (over 2200, 2000-2199, 1800-1999, 1600-1799, 1400-1599, 1200-1399, and under 1200).

 

Each section’s champion will earn a National Championship for that class (and can advertise their National Title on their college applications and/or LinkedIn profile).

1. [Aug. 13] Scholastic sections for scholastic players (K-12) from under 400 to 800-999.
   1. 4 sections: I (unrated & under 400), H (400-599), G (600-799), F (800-999),
   2. National trophies to players with a winning record
   3. Time control: 5SS G/25 d5
2. [Aug. 12-14 or 13-14] Non-scholastic Sections:
   1. $31,100 b/347 prize fund 
   2. 7 Open sections for players for all ages from under 1200 to over 2200.
      1. FIDE & USCF rated Sections: M (2200+), X (2000-2199), A (1800-1999), B (1600-1799)
      2. USCF rated Sections: C (1400-1599), D (1200-1399), E (under 1200)
   3. Time Control: 6SS G/90 +30
   4. Schedules:
      1. 3-day schedule (Fri, Sat, & Sun) with:
         • Fri 2:30pm start; 2 rounds on each day.
         • Fri 6:50 pm start; 1 round on Friday, 3 rounds on Saturday, and 2 rounds on Sunday.
      2. 2-day schedule (Sat & Sun) with Sat 9am start and 4 rounds on Saturday (rounds 1-2 G/60 +5) and 2 rounds Sunday
