Dear Players and Parents,
We are just 2.5 weeks away from the annual big Spring Scholastic State Championship! Last year we had close to 1300, so let's all get together and break that number this year!
Besides THE competition, we'll have many side attractions and special prizes:
Special luggages for the Championship winners sponsored by Casual Cottage;
BayAreaChess GrandMasters will be offering fun clocked simuls & game analysis during the break;
Coach Jay is making his trip from SoCal to promote his workbooks, and Shelby is also coming with his special chess goodies via Woodexpression!
Coach Lauren will be there with her book and puzzles, and Chess Notator will be showing their new device for electronic notation.
Facepainting, Balloon artist & jewelry stand; & many more fun side event.
This tournament is for ALL levels:
If your child just stated and can play through a game --> we have a special section just for first time tournament players, called Rookie sections!
If your child has been attending rated tournaments, but not yet the best, we have Beginner, and Junior Varsity sections for most age groups.
If you are the best of your age group --> We have the Championship sections to grab the State Championship Title!
Even better: the ultimate Championship section: K-Gr12 Championship section will be again FIDE rated, to attract those 2000+ players to the game!

How to select your Section?
Step 1: Select your Grade: K, Grade1-3, Grade 4-6, Grade 6-8, Grade 9-12
Step 2: Get your rating: Look it up at USCF - Click HERE.
Not a USCF member? Then the player's rating is unrated.
K, Grade 1-3, Grade 4-6:
unrated --> Rookie section
rated under 500 --> Beginner Section
rated 500-799 --> Junior Varsity Section
rated over 800 --> Championship section
Grade 6-8:
unrated, or rated under 800 --> Beginner section
rated 800-1199 --> Junior Varsity section
rated over 1200 --> Championship section
two Championship sections: Grade 4-5 and Grade 4-6: students in Grade 4&5 can chose between the two, no restriction on which one they chose.
Grade 9-12:
unrated, or rated under 800 --> Beginner section
rated 800-1599 --> Junior Varsity section
rated over 1600 --> Championship section

Bughouse: Trophies to both players of the top 3 teams with a winning record in each section.
What is a Team?
A team is two or more players from a school or club in the same section. Top four players' scores count for the team total.
