Bay Area Chess wishes you the best for 2020 and beyond. We are continuing to work hard to bring you more chess in more places as we target over 300 tournaments for you in 2020 in response to the growing demand.

Featured Tournaments!

I recommend the following two upcoming tournaments (both are at Santa Clara Convention Center):

 

Children & Youth (ages 20 & under)

Take a short at a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP: 2020 US National Chess Congress

  1. We are waiving the late fee for the next 28 entries! So, register NOW at https://bayareachess.com/my/usjr.
  2. Jan 11 features 2 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP sections: Ages 6 & under and Ages 8 & under (5 x G/45 d5).
  3. Jan 11 and 12 features 6 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP sections: Ages 10/12/14/16/18/20 & under sections (5 x G/75 d5)..
  4. Jan 12 features 2 Junior Varsity sections: Ages 10/20 & under (rated <500 and <800, respectively – 5 x G/30 d5).
  5. Jan 12 also features a fun Blitz event.

 

Adults & Children rated 1000+

For adults and advanced children (rated 1000+), we have the NM Paul Gallegos Memorial Championship (5SS, G/90 +30).

  1. Feb 8 will be 3 rounds and Feb 9 will be 2 rounds.
  2. This year we will honor the local chess heroes who helped CalChess revival and BayAreaChess become the most prolific chess club in the nation.
 

Want to Save Money?

  1. BayAreaChess members enjoy 25% discount off our tournaments. You can buy a 366 day membership at https://bayareachess.com/my/membership for $100 before the cost goes up after February 29.
  2. Registering for multiple tournaments also gives you discounts.
  3. Look for Chess4Less events at our San Jose office and at Rancho Cordova Courtyard (in Sacramento area).
    1. Kids Swiss for $33 and Kids Quads for $27
    2. 1-day regular tournaments for $43 (econ $33) which is lower than our entry fees a few years ago.
  4. We are paying almost 3% of fees to PayPal. This year, we will switch to direct credit card payments and encourage ACH/debit payments.
