If there’s one tournament you’re going to play this year, it should be the 2022 US Class Championship.
Why?
Because the US Class Championship levels the playing field for all players by grouping them in sections with 200 rating bands, from Master (for players rated over 2200) to Beginner (for Scholastic players rated under 400 and unrated).

Choose from 11 sections:
 

1. 7 Open sections (over 2200, 2000-2199, 1800-1999, 1600-1799, 1400-1599, 1200-1399, and under 1200).
2. 4 Scholastic sections (800-999, 600-799, 400-599, and under 400)

 

Each section’s champion will earn a National Championship for that class (and can advertise their National title on their college applications and/or LinkedIn profile). 

US Chess chose us to host the US Class Championship to the Bay Area after many years and it will be many years before we host it again. 

So, if there’s one tournament you’re going to play this year, THIS is it!

1. National Championship:
   1. [Aug. 12-14 or 13-14] 7 Open sections for players for all ages from under 1200 to over 2200.
      1. $31,100 b/347 prize fund 
      2. Time Control: 6SS G/90 +30
      3. FIDE-rated Sections: M, X, A, B
      4. Sschedules:
         1. 3-day schedule (Fri thru Sun) with Fri 2:30pm start and 2 rounds on each day
         2. 3-day schedule (Fri thru Sun) with Fri 6:50 pm start and 1 round on Friday, 3 rounds on Saturday, and 2 rounds on Sunday.
         3. 2-day schedule (Sat & Sun) with Sat 9am start and 4 rounds on Saturday (rounds 1-2 G/60 +5) and 2 rounds Sunday  
   2. [Aug. 13] 4 Scholastic sections for scholastic players (K-12) from under 400 to 800-999.
      1. National trophies to players with a winning record
      2. Time control: 5SS G/25 d5
