Welcome to the 2015/16 School Year |
We are very excited to have expanded our enrichment programs this year to over 80 schools in the Bay Area! We are proudly serving cities in the
Peninsula, South and East Bay Area. Most of our programs started early to mid September, but we also have programs where the first classes just started. It's exciting to see the coaches and students getting into the routine and looking forward to chess every day and week. Besides the expansion of BayAreaChess, we have also revamped our programs: created the best professional team of instructors who know how to incorporate fun while learning, and renewed
our in-class point system to build a reward program that encourages and supports class participation and play. Most importantly, we are happy to see children enjoying the game and using it to learn to think, analyze, plan and have fun with their classmates and take their game to the next level. We encourage children who want to further their exploration of chess to participate in one of our weekend club or team classes, or participate in one
of our weekly scholastic tournaments. There are sections for every skill level, from pure beginner to advanced players. Please email any questions to enrich@bayareachess. Sincerely, Abel Talamantez, Director of Enrichment, & the BayAreaChess Enrichment Team Highlights of the Month We would like to highlight three of our schools this
month: Redwood Shores Elementary
School's Chess Club in Redwood City is one of BAC's longest running and most popular after school programs. Led by Coach Rick and assisted by IM Faik Aleskerov and Coach Cameron over 40 students are engaged every day at this school and a we are supported by a wonderful group of parents.
Hammer Montessori Elementary School's Chess Club in San Jose is currently led by NM Thomas Riccardi and
assisted by Coach Matt. It is one of 10 schools served in the San Jose Unified School District and one of the many schools that were previously under Castling Kids and made the smooth transition to BAC. We are happy to see students, parents and coaches support BayAreaChess with the same enthusiasm as they did Castling Kids.
Terrell Elementary School's Chess Club in San Jose is a prime example of our energizing lunch programs. Lunch
programs are designed to offer an alternative recess time to ALL children in these schools, and hence it serves a perfect opportunity to spread the love of chess to all children regardless of socioeconomic background. Funded by the schools, these programs introduce hundreds of children to chess each year and many have gone on to participate in USCF rated tournaments! BAC currently runs over a dozen such programs, and are continuously working with additional schools to start these programs up
anywhere where it's needed. Save the Date: 10/30, Friday, 6:30pm Halloween Friday with
