Parents,
We will be having a series of events at the BAC Clubs in the weeks leading up to the Super-States Championship on April 7-8th.
Stay up to date with our special club events here: https://enrichment.bayareachess.com/weekend-clubs
We are happy to announce a special competition for all of our BAC Puzzlers, regardless of rating,
held only this weekend on Sunday night, 5-8pm, at our Cupertino Club on March 4th!
Games and lessons will still be available for those that do not take part in the competition.
Address: 19624 Homestead Rd, Cupertino, 95014
Here is a message from Coach Rich, who will be hosting the competition:
" Chester Swift had a problem. The evil Dr. Ignorance had stolen the solutions to many of Chester’s best mystery chess puzzles. Chester was fascinated with short games of chess and was compiling a database of all of the shortest games he could find. But Dr. Ignorance had other ideas. He wanted to keep all the best solutions to himself, so that he would be known as the best mystery chess puzzle solver in the world. Chester was able to recall the last move of some of his best
puzzles, but sadly he had forgotten the rest of the solutions. He now needs help to solve the mystery by finding the shortest games possible that end with a very specific move. A group of mystery chess solvers will meet Sunday night at the Cupertino club to help Chester with his quest. Would you care to join them? "
These will not be standard chess puzzles. "Mystery-Chess" provides the final move in a short-game and asks how it is possible for that checkmate to be delivered by calculating the possible moves of both colors. An example? From starting position, can you create a game where a knight makes a checkmate on turn 3? Try it.
Young players (5-6) or beginner players that struggle with notation (writing down moves) may find some of the material to be too difficult, but the overall challenge rating is wide enough to accommodate most players (even top players will be challenged!). Participants must be under 18, as is standard for all of our scholastic clubs.
There is no need to register, as it will otherwise be treated as a regular club that uses our convenient drop-in schedule and standard club fee. We would like to see first-timers as well as regulars from other club locations join us for this event. There will be fun challenges, prizes, and yes, we will be providing the pizza.

See you on Sunday!
Many Thanks,
Coach James
